Services to Be Held for Former Coach

Memorial services will be held for former Brea-Olinda, Newport Harbor and Mater Dei high schools football Coach Rudy Estrada at 1 p.m. Saturday in Brea’s auditorium.
Estrada, 49, died as the result of a malignant brain tumor on Dec. 15, and funeral services were held in Las Cruces, N.M. on Dec. 21.
Estrada was an assistant coach at Mater Dei from 1964-70. He became Brea-Olinda’s head coach from 1974-76.
While at Brea, Estrada was selected Teacher of the Year and also served as the city’s director of bilingual and bicultural programs.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, of Santa Ana; two sons, Greg of Laguna Hills and Steve of Santa Ana; two daughters, Hope Carreon and Jennifer Vogann of Santa Ana; a brother, Bobby Estrada of Las Cruces; and three sisters, Corrine Lovely, Lupe Haycock and Rose Mary Kirby of Las Cruces.
