An El Cajon attorney sentenced last week to three years in state prison for grand theft was sentenced Monday to three years in federal prison for bankruptcy fraud and contempt of court. U.S. District Judge Gordon Thompson ordered Donald Helmer, 44, to repay $12,000 to a client who had given the money to Helmer to put in a trust fund account. Thompson sentenced Helmer to three years in federal prison but ordered that it run concurrently with the sentence in state prison imposed by Superior Court Judge Nicholas Kasimatis on Friday. Thompson also placed Helmer on five years’ probation when he leaves prison.
