USFL to Hold College Draft Today
NEW YORK — The United States Football League, which signed the last two Heisman Trophy winners, holds its third draft of college players today wity All-America Doug Flutie, the Boston College Quarterback, Formally Being picked by the New Jersey Generals as a territorial pick.
New Jersey holds the territoral rights to Boston College players, and Generals’ owner Donald Trump has said he would make a generous offer to sign the 1984 Heisman Trophy winner away from the National lFootball League.
USFL teams have landed Heisman winners Herschel Walker (New Jersey) and Mike Roxier (Pirrsburgh) the past two years. roxier now is the property of the Baltimore (formerly Philadelphia) Stars.
The USFL holds its draft in two phases. Each club selects 25 players from its six territorial colleges and then players from schools not covered, called the open phase.
The NFL draft is set for April 30.
