Oxnard scored the first seven points of the second half Wednesday night and went on to hand Valley College its third straight loss, 83-78, on the Valley court.
The Monarchs, 9-6, led, 44-35, at the half. But in the second half all they could do was stay close as sophomore guard Larry Middleton scored 31 points and forward Glenn Boss added 23.
“It was our worst game defensively,” said Valley Coach Bobby Castagna. “Both teams played sloppy. We did not play good defense and we missed 6 of 12 free throws while they made 21 of 33.”
Valley will play host to the Occidental JV Saturday night at 7:30.
Woody Jones scored 28 points and Eric Smith had 14 to lead Moorpark to a 86-67 win at LA Trade Tech.
Steve Abraham, who consistantly got the ball inside to Jones, had 10 assists. Moorpark’s record fell to 9-5.
