Reseda Cleveland isn’t about to let Chatsworth take the No. 1 seed in the City Section Division I playoffs without forcing the Chancellors to work for it.
Cleveland (22-7, 12-2) stayed tied for first place in the West Valley League with the Chancellors by knocking off Woodland Hills El Camino Real, 6-5, on Tuesday. Jeremy Stearn went three for three with a triple and three RBIs. Spencer Horowitz had two hits and two RBIs. David Carver gave up four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Chatsworth (26-3, 12-2) defeated Granada Hills, 9-1, with Mike Renner striking out nine and allowing four hits. Andy Weissberg had three hits, including a three-run home run. Andrew Klausmeier hit a two-run home run.
The regular season ends on Thursday, with Chatsworth playing at Woodland Hills Taft and Cleveland playing at Lake Balboa Birmingham. If both teams finish tied for first, Chatsworth will receive the No. 1 seeding from the league by virtual of beating the Cavaliers twice this season in three games.
