I predicted a Long Beach Poly victory over Orange Lutheran. But I did not foresee this -- the bizarre and the classic, the heart-twisting and the mystifying, all smushed into one.

I predicted vindication for Poly. I did not foresee vexation for Lutheran.

The game was a chess match for Poly. The ending was checkered with agony for Lutheran.

In the same game last year, Poly vaulted out of a 23-point hole in the fourth quarter against Orange Lutheran, only to lose, 23-22, after bungling a game-tying extra point -- and felt the pain.
