Seniors Mallory Celaya from Hollywood and Rosa Del Toro from Birmingham are the favorites in the City Section’s girls’ cross-country championships Saturday morning at Pierce College.
Celaya had the fastest time at last week’s City preliminary races, posting 18:40. Del Toro ran 18:47, but was coasting at the end of her race. Should either Celaya or Del Toro falter, watch out for Karen Rosas, a junior from Bravo Magnet who ran 18:45 in her prelim.
Reseda, which finished third at last year’s final, is favored to win the team title with six runners who’ve been timed in the mid- to low-19s. Both Birmingham and Taft are expected to challenge.
