The Saugus girls had the fastest time at the Southern Section preliminaries on Saturday, posting a combined team time of 1 hour 29.58 minutes on the 2.9-mile Mt. SAC course. The time was more than two minutes better than that of their nearest competitor, Trabuco Hills.

Katie Dunn (17:37) finished third for the Centurions and teammate Kaylin Mahoney (17:37) was fourth and the only freshman in the top 10. So, based on all its other amazing performances this season, Saugus looks like a lock for a second consecutive state title this fall.
