Taft Coach Matt Kerstetter watched the Venice-San Fernando game from the stands last week because his team will open its season Friday at Venice.
As Venice rolled to an easy 41-14 victory, Kerstetter, who is in his first season as head coach after serving as Taft’s offensive coordinator, sounded as if he had gone to the weekend opening of ‘Halloween’ instead.
‘The fact that most teams often make the most improvement between their first and second games makes it a little scary for us because they looked pretty good as it is,’ he said.
At the moment Taft only has one starter who is questionable for the game. Kerstetter said tight end Julian Shanks has a banged-up shoulder, ‘but he will probably play.’
