Paramedics roll the victim of a shooting on 52nd Street at Hoover to an ambulance Monday afternoon. The Latino young man, possibly a teenager, was shot in the abdomen by drive-by shooters. He was conscious on the gurney, wincing, holding his chest with one hand, and raising himself as if trying to get up. An intent-looking older woman got in the ambulance with him. He was taken to California Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition by nightfall. In the backdrop, neighbors stand on the porch and watch. ‘We dropped to the floor when we heard the shots, they sounded so close,’ said one young mother, holding her child. Shooters escaped, speeding off in a car, according to police. Up until this, it was a fairly quiet day for the LAPD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who reported no homicides in the daylight hours on Monday, an unusually hot Labor Day. Right, a shell casing at the scene, circled in chalk.
