Angels’ Dan Haren hopes for turnaround in Detroit

Dan Haren (pictured at right) closed the first half of the season with four wins in a row -- including consecutive starts in which he did not allow a run. But it’s been rougher sledding since the All-Star break, with the right-hander going winless in three starts.
He’ll try to turn things around Saturday at Comerica Park when he faces the Detroit Tigers, a team he shut out on two hits earlier this month. That game was in Anaheim, though, where Haren has a 1.83 ERA, about half what it is on the road. Haren’s ERA in three starts since the All-Star Game is 5.89.
On the mound for Detroit will be 20-year-old right-hander Jacob Turner, who will be making his big-league debut. He was 3-5 with a 3.48 ERA at Double A Erie.
At 27-13, the Angels have the best record in baseball since June 13 and with a victory on Saturday, they would clinch at least a split of the four-game series in Detroit. The Angels have lost just one of their last 11 series.
