Junior right-hander Trevor Bauer of UCLA threw his eighth consecutive complete game, limiting Arizona State to five hits as the Bruins defeated Arizona State, 7-0, Saturday night in Tempe to clinch at least a share of the Pacific 10 Conference championship.
Oregon State lost to Oregon, 4-1, to fall one game behind UCLA (33-21, 18-8) with one game to play.
It was the 10th shutout by a UCLA pitcher this season, tying a school record established in 1969. Bauer struck out 14 and improved his record to 12-2 and lowered his earned-run average to 1.27. He finished with a flourish, striking out the side in the ninth.
UCLA closes its regular season Sunday at Arizona State. NCAA playoff pairings will be announced Monday at 9:30 a.m.
