Looking for a 21st century alternative to the grandfather clock? Check out the Clock Inlays cabinet (above; detail below) by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Italy’s FormaFantasma. The two designers have taken the ubiquitous mass-produced chipboard to a whole new level, integrating inlays of clock-part shapes. A traditional clock comes tucked inside.

Unfortunately, although the material is inexpensive, the one-of-a-kind cabinet is not. Clock Inlays by FormaFantasma, $23,000, at Droog, 76 Greene St., New York, N.Y., (212) 941-8350.
