New: Rodarte for dudes at Opening Ceremony

Call it Rodarte for dudes (or would that be ‘Ro-dude-te’?) -- this morning, fashion industry trade paper WWD (subscription required) reported that L.A.-based sister act Kate and Laura Mulleavy have broadened their Rodarte womenswear line to include the XY chromosome -- albeit for a limited run of just four handmade sweaters.
The designers have created two crewneck and two cardigan styles similar in aesthetic to the gauzy, spiderwebby women’s sweaters (though they look a tad more fitted to us). The sweaters are currently available only through Opening Ceremony, where they retail for $2,760 each.
But apparently we shouldn’t see this as a trial balloon for a future expanded men’s collection. Although the label has also done a couple of men’s T-shirts -- also for Opening Ceremony -- Rodarte spokesman Brian Phillips told WWD that at this time there are no plans for additional forays into menswear.
The sweaters are available at the brick-and-mortar Opening Ceremony stores at 35 Howard St. in New York City and at 451 N. La Cienega Blvd. (where we’re told the stock is currently limited to a small and medium size in each style) as well as through Opening Ceremony’s online shop.
