High School Roundup: Estancia girls’ soccer shuts out Mesa

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Estancia 3, Costa Mesa 0
Isabelle Cruz and Jada Alford scored second-half goals for the Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League game at Costa Mesa High.
Estancia (9-4-2, 4-1 in league) also benefited from an own goal from Costa Mesa (7-7-2, 0-4).
Fountain Valley 2, Edison 1
The Barons earned their second straight upset and handed the Chargers their first Sunset League loss Tuesday at Edison High.
Karley Duda and Kylie Wilson scored the goals for Fountain Valley, which got standout defense from Ally Bebout, Sandy Hawryla, Katee Lehr and Aysia Buendia.
Edison, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, is 10-5-4, 6-1 in league. Fountain Valley is 11-5-2, 2-4-1 in league.
Los Alamitos 2, Huntington Beach 1 (OT)
The Griffins moved into outright second place in the Sunset League with Tuesday’s win at Los Alamitos High.
Jenna Nighswonger scored for Huntington Beach, assisted by Alisha Oliver.
The Oilers are now 12-7-6, 3-3-1 in league.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Estancia 19, Santa Ana 3
Katelyn Chesemore scored 10 goals for the Eagles in Tuesday’s nonleague game.
Kalena Shepherd and Julia Paluch had three each, Hayley Hopp scored twice and Annie Mitchell added a goal.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Corona del Mar 4, Northwood 1
Niko Urban scored two goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at CdM on Tuesday.
Grant Joyce and Max Rivas also scored for CdM (9-3-4, 4-0-1 in league).
Chris Bartolic and Campbell Sheppard split time in the goal to get the shutout for the Sea Kings who play host to Woodbridge Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Orange Coast League
Estancia 47, Costa Mesa 44
Cielo Cruz had 11 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles (5-16, 2-3) to victory.
Belen Gutierrez added 14 points for Estancia.
Katie Belmontes had 24 points to lead the Mustangs (7-13, 3-2) in defeat.
Academy League
Crean Lutheran 61, Sage Hill 54
Senior center Kylie Needham scored 26 points to lead the Saints (12-8, 5-2) to a split of the teams’ league meetings.
Heather Park had 19 points, and Trinity Cha added 16 points for Sage Hill’s backcourt in the loss.
The Lightning (11-9, 4-3) are just 1-3 at home during Academy League play.
Pacific Coast League
Northwood 59, Corona del Mar 55 (OT)
Erin Matsutsuyu scored seven of her 38 points in overtime, and the Timberwolves (8-12, 1-4) earned their first league win.
The junior point guard made seven 3-pointers.
Samantha Uehara had a team-high 17 points for the Sea Kings (3-17, 0-5). Tatiana Bruening added 10 points in the loss.
Sunset League (From Monday)
Edison 52, Fountain Valley 21
Finley Garnett had 11 points, and Andie Kristinat and Ashley Niemand scored eight points each as the host Chargers (12-9, 3-3) rolled to victory.
Ten players scored in the win for Edison.
Monet Oncu paced the Barons (6-13, 0-6) with eight points.
Marina 65, Newport Harbor 34
Sadie Atwood led a quartet of Marina double-figure scorers with 16 points.
Michelle Esparza scored 13 points, Tricia Fukuzawa had 11, and Katie Nguyen added 10 for the Vikings (9-13, 4-2).
Lisa Hamilton had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Vikings from sweeping the season series.
Angelina Alvarez also had 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals for the Sailors (7-14, 1-5).
