High School Roundup: Newport Harbor wrestler Moreno wins title at Ed Spring tourney

BREA — Newport Harbor High junior Xander Moreno captured the championship in the 145-pound weight class at Brea Olinda on Saturday.
Moreno went 5-0, recording three pins and two major decisions.
Senior DJ Van Oostendorp (182 pounds) finished in fourth place after going 4-2.

CORONA — Corona del Mar High finished runner-up in the tourney after Corona Santiago edged the Sea Kings, 4-3, on penalty kicks on Saturday.
Ava Mckenzie scored during regulation, but Santiago tied it up with 12 minutes left. The result is a tie on the records for CdM and Santiago, Sea Kings Coach Bryan Middleton said.
“We did PKs for the free T-shirts and the cup,” Middleton said.
CdM (10-0-1) beat Corona, 2-1, in a semifinal Saturday morning. Liz Lamie had a goal and an assist. Taylor Rosen scored a goal and Julianne Bartz had an assist. Goalie Ally Lozano made five saves against Corona and eight saves against Santiago.
The Sea Kings will next play host to rival Newport Harbor on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL

WESTMINSTER — D.J. Rodman scored 21 points to help lead the Sea Kings to the win in the third-place game of the Charlie Wilkins Memorial Tournament at Westminster High on Saturday.
Kevin Kobrine added 13 points for CdM (6-3).
Rodman and Kobrine were named to the all-tournament team.
