College Roundup: Mendoza scores 25 in win for OCC

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Orange Coast 97, Santa Ana 68

Josh Mendoza scored 25 points to lead four players in double figures for the host Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday.

Mendoza was five for 12 from three-point range to help OCC (8-17, 1-9 in conference) halt a nine-game losing streak.

Tim Pena (16 points), Kamar Reese (15) and Nate Harding (11) also chipped in for the winners, who avenged a 102-95 loss at Santa Ana on Jan. 13.

Santa Ana is 6-20, 1-9.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Orange Coast def. Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA – The visiting Pirates earned a 25-22, 25-12, 25-20 nonconference sweep on Wednesday.

Jordan Hoppe led the Pirates (3-1) with 13 kills and JB Kam added 12.

Colby Elder and Jacob Gilliam had 22 assists apiece.

Santa Barbara is 2-2.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Santa Ana 92, Orange Coast 81

Sophomore Michelle Wu had 22 points and Chyann Pendergrass added 21 for the host Pirates in the Orange Coast Empire Conference game Wednesday.

Wu was five for seven from three-point range, but OCC (17-11, 5-5 in conference) was 10 for 35 from threedom.

Santa Ana (15-11, 5-5) made nine of 19 three-point tries (47.4%) and was 33 for 62 from the field (53.2%).

BASEBALL

Lewis-Clark 9, Vanguard 3

SANTA CLARITA — The two-time defending NAIA champions pulled away from a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning in the nonconference game Wednesday at The Master’s University.

Tanner Perry had two runs batted in for No. 20-ranked Vanguard (5-4), for which Brock Eissman and Michael Fuchs had two hits apiece.

No. 1-ranked Lewis-Clark is 2-2.
