LA MIRADA – Megan Chlentzos converted an assist from Rayven Hernandez in the third minute of overtime to lift the No. 1-seeded, No. 7-ranked Lions in the semifinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday at Biola.
Vanguard (15-3), will meet No. 2-seeded Biola in the title game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Biola.
The Lions posted an 18-11 shot advantage and Vanguard goalkeeper Haley Magana had five saves.
The Master’s fell to 8-7-5.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Orange Coast 3, Golden West 0
The host Pirates added to their case for an at-large berth in the Southern California regional playoffs in the Orange Empire Conference finale on Thursday.
Emily Malec, Jordan Moore and Sam Oliver had goals for the winners (13-5-3, 10-4-2 in conference).
OCC finished third in conference.
Playoff pairings will be announced Monday.
Golden West finished 3-11-5, 2-9-5.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Palomar 79, Orange Coast 46
SAN JACINTO – Chyann Pendergrass had nine points, four steals and three assists to lead the Pirates in the opening round of the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament on Friday.
Megan Lewis had six points and 11 rebounds for OCC (0-1).
Palomar is coached by former OCC player and assistant coach Leigh Marshall.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Golden West 16, Los Angeles Valley 2
Peter Lovas had six goals and five assists to lead the host Rustlers in the quarterfinals of the Southern California Championship on Friday.
Golden West (27-0) plays Riverside in an 11 a.m. semifinal on Saturday. The final is scheduled for 4:30 Saturday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Orange Coast 76, Miramar 69
Ryan Fusco scored 18 points to lead the host Pirates in the nonconference game Friday.
Fusco made seven of 11 field-goal attempts and added four assists and four steals.
Josh Mendoza (Estancia High) and Nate Harding (Newport Harbor) had 11 points apiece for OCC (3-1).
Miramar is 2-2.
