SAN DIEGO — Senior outside hitter Victoria Dennis amassed 31 kills and a .520 hitting percentage to lead the visiting Anteaters to a 23-25, 31-29, 25-14, 25-27, 15-12 nonconference triumph on Wednesday.

Sophomore outside hitter Haley DeSales had 18 kills and 19 digs for the Anteaters (3-4), for whom senior setter Shelley Anderson contributed 61 assists.

UCI hit .444 as a team.

San Diego State fell to 3-4.

UCI meets host San Diego on Thursday at 7 p.m. to open the USD Invitational.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 2, Pomona-Pitzer 0

Haley Bruce bent in a corner kick in the 8th minute and Nicole Dunn tacked on for the No. 10-ranked host Lions in the nonconference game Wednesday.

Haley Magana had three saves to preserve the shutout for Vanguard (3-2).

The Lions had a 17-10 advantage in shots to help Pomona-Pitzer fall to 2-1.

Vanguard, which has won three straight, plays host to Bathesda of California on Saturday at 1 p.m.
