DOWNEY — Parker Warden finished with 24 kills for the visiting Lightning in a 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12 Academy League win on Wednesday.

Shane Larimer totaled 63 assists for Sage Hill.

Albert Son had 16 kills and Josh Lee added a dozen kills.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor High’s David Lee and Mark Schaefer, the No. 2-seeded team in doubles, advanced to Thursday’s semfinals at Huntington Beach High.

The Sailors duo beat an HB team, 8-1, in the first round and took down a Los Alamitos tandem, 6-2, 5-7, 10-6, to advance to the semifinals.

Newport Harbor’s Andy Myers, the No. 5 seed in singles, reached the second round on Wednesday.

LONG BEACH — Newport Harbor High’s Noah Mayne, Ethan Barnes and Campbell Norris made the cut, which was eight-over par 80, to reach the second day at Skylinks Golf Course on Wednesday.

Mayne (77), Barnes (79) and Norris (80) will be among a group vying for nine spots to advance to the CIF Southern Section Individual tournament.
