DAVIS — The Anteaters managed just six hits and senior starting pitcher Elliot Surrey allowed nine hits and six earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in the Big West Conference series opener Friday.
UCI sophomore All-American Keston Hiura, a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, sat out with a sore elbow that is not believed to be series, a team official said.
John Brontsema was two for five with one run batted in and one run and Cole Kreuter was one for three with two RBIs for the Anteaters (20-14, 4-6 in conference).
Davis, which ended a seven-game losing streak, is 9-22, 2-8.
The two teams resume the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
