High School Roundup: CdM takes care of Soquel

CdM senior Kevin McCarthy went six innings, scattering two hits for his first win of the season in Saturday’s Beach Pit Classic tournament opener at CdM.
McCarthy, Garrett Schwab and Nick Sperr all had two hits for the Sea Kings (9-2), who continue the tournament when they play host to Downey on Monday at 3 p.m.

Costa Mesa 10, Santa Ana Valley 1
SANTA ANA — Sophomore Skylar Manning stuck out three and allowed two hits in the Mustangs’ Santa Ana Elks Tournament opener on Saturday.
Manning also went two for three for Costa Mesa (5-9).
Grady Conner went two for four with one run batted in and one run.
The Mustangs return to tournament play on Monday, when they play host to Hesperia at 3 p.m.

Estancia 5, Downey 4
Sophomore Brian Rodriguez went five innings for the Eagles in their opening game in the Beach Pit Classic on Saturday.
Jake McIntyre went three for four with two runs batted in, while Trevor Brown and Ryan Harrison had two hits apiece.
Estancia (10-4) continues the tournament on Monday at home against Valencia at 3 p.m.
