Lions’ Heinle lauded

Vanguard University sophomore Britany Heinle has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in softball.

Heinle, a first baseman in her first season with the Lions after transferring from San Joaquin Delta Community College, had 11 runs batted in in 22 at-bats and her nine hits included five doubles and one home run in eight games, including doubleheader sweeps against Golden State Athletic Conference foes William Jessup and Menlo.

Heinle entered the week batting .284 with two homers and 18 RBIs. She led the team with eight Lions with eight doubles and her 17 walks, seven of which she collected last week, ranked second on the team.

Vanguard was 21-14, 5-5 in conference, entering Tuesday’s GSAC doubleheader at Biola.
