High School Roundup: Estancia baseball moves to 3-0

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Brian Rodriguez grabbed his first win after pitching five innings that included two hits allowed and five strikeouts for the Eagles in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

Tyler Ross (two doubles), Jake McIntyre (triple, run batted in) and Trevor Brown (RBI) each went two for three, while, Nick Torres produced a triple for Estancia (3-0).

Brethren Christian fell to 1-2.

The Eagles next play host to La Serna to start the Newport Elks Tournament Thursday at 3 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Newport Harbor 12, Magnolia 2

Senior Haley Martinez went three for three with two runs scored and three runs batted in for the Sailors in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

Junior pitcher Samantha del Toro struck out three, allowed two hits and two unearned runs in five innings to improve to 2-1.

Senior Ashley McNerney (one for two, three runs, two RBIs), junior Diana Surber (two walks, one hit, three runs), junior Kendall Machado (one for two, one run), Del Toro (one for three, one RBI), junior Skialer Carter (one RBI), sophomore Ryah Montano (two for two, one RBI) and freshman Leah Freeman (one RBI) also contributed for Newport Harbor (2-1).

The Sailors play host to Santiago Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 188, Aliso Niguel 198

ALISO VIEJO — Clay Seeber shot even-par 35 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in their nonleague season-opener at Aliso Viejo Country Club on Tuesday.

Guy Clauss (36), John Michael Jurgenson (37), Ethan Wein (40) and Zach Glabman (40) also scored for CdM (1-0).

The Sea Kings finished fifth out of 24 teams in the Ayala Tournament at Los Serrano Country Club in Chino Hills on Monday.

CdM plays host to San Clemente at Newport Beach Country Club on Thursday.

CHINO HILLS — Newport Harbor High senior Ryan Standt shot even-par 72 to help the Sailors finish in the top 10 out of 24 teams at Los Serranos Country Club on Monday.

Freshman Ethan Barnes (74), junior Noah Mayne (76), junior Richie Simons (77) and senior Drake Segal (83) also scored for Newport Harbor.
