College Roundup: UCI men’s volleyball falls to Long Beach State

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Long Beach State def. UC Irvine

Thomas Hodges led the host Anteaters with 10 kills, as the 49ers swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16, on Friday.

No. 7-ranked UCI (8-5, 5-4 in conference), hit .196 as a team.

No. 2-ranked Long Beach hit .469 and posted a 10.5-3 advantage in total blocks.

The 49ers are 10-2, 6-1.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Irvine Valley 83, Orange Coast 67

IRVINE – Kamar Reese had 24 points and four assists to lead the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Tim Pena added 16 points for OCC (8-18, 1-10 in conference).

IVC is 14-12, 5-6.

BASEBALL

Suspended game

SAN MARCOS – Visiting Orange Coast College trailed, 6-5, after eight innings when the nonconference game was suspended due to darkness on Friday.

The game is scheduled to be resumed on Feb. 21.

No statistics were available.

Orange Coast 9, Long Beach 1

LONG BEACH – Travis Moniot went two for three with a home run and three runs batted in and Cameron Jabara earned his third pitching win in as many decisions in the nonconference game Thursday.

Jake Scott homered and had two RBIs, while Eric Wagaman drove in two runs for the Pirates (5-0).

Jabara, a Newport Harbor High product, allowed four hits an no earned runs in five innings.

Long Beach is 4-1.

Golden West 5, Cerritos 2

Louie Canjure went three for three to lead the host Rustlers in the nonconference game Thursday.

Jeremiah Vison, Zakk Morgan and Nick Tingrides all drove in runs for Golden West (2-4).

Taylor Franzman allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings to earn his first win of the season.

Andrew Pactwa pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.

Cerritos is 2-3.

Golden West def. El Camino

Kysen Olson had 20 kills, five aces and four block assists to lead the host Rustlers in the 20-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-22 nonconference victory on Thursday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Poly SLO 78, UC Irvine 60

Sophomore Andee Ritter had 16 points, including four three-pointers that allowed her to set the UC Irvine single-season record in the Big West Conference game Thursday.

Ritter’s 65 three-pointers this season top the old mark of 64 set by Kathy Lizarraga in 1988-89.

Shereen Sutherland had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Teirra Hicks had 13 points for UCI (3-20, 1-8 in conference).

Cal Poly is 8-14, 4-6.
