Orange Coast 71, Cypress 68

Freshman guard Michelle Wu led five starters in double figures with 16 points, and her layup with 4:15 left gave the host Pirates the lead for good in the Orange Empire Conference opener on Wednesday.

Wu had three three-pointers to help the Pirates overcome a 34-16 first-quarter deficit to improve to 10-7.

Freshman Jenna Rodriguez had 15 points and 12 rebounds for OCC, for which Sami Little chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds.

Chyann Pendergrass had 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while Sarah Nunes had 10 points and nine boards.

OCC closed to within 42-38 by halftime and was down by one entering the final period.

Cypress is 13-5.
