Oil and fluid spill from truck closes part of road near Pelican Hill resort
Part of a Newport Coast road was closed for hours Monday after a trash truck hit a dislodged manhole cover, damaging the truck and causing it to spill oil and hydraulic fluid onto the pavement, authorities said.
The spill was reported at about 7 a.m. on southbound Pelican Hill Road near The Resort at Pelican Hill, said Newport Beach police Lt. Randy Querry.
The truck kept moving for a time after hitting the manhole cover, resulting in a spill on a stretch of the southbound lane between Pelican Hill Circle and the resort.
Querry said he did not know how the manhole cover became dislodged.
The lane was reopened at about 4 p.m., Querry said.
The truck driver was uninjured.
