Newport and Costa Mesa celebrate National Night Out

Newport Beach residents gathered at Bonita Canyon Sports Park on Tuesday to celebrate National Night Out with a safety fair intended to educate the public about crime prevention.

Guests could grab dinner from TK Burger while perusing displays from crime scene investigation, SWAT, K-9, animal control, horseback patrol, community emergency response and other local law enforcement units. They also played games and visited with McGruff the Crime Dog.

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa police served food and guided visitors through displays from various units in the police and fire departments during a National Night Out fair at the Target shopping center on Harbor Boulevard.
