3 hurt as Camrys collide in Fountain Valley
Three people were injured in a crash Thursday evening in Fountain Valley, authorities said.
Police and firefighters responded to a two-car collision at the intersection of Talbert Avenue and Ward Street at about 5:40 p.m., said Fountain Valley fire Battalion Chief Ron Cookston.
Two Toyota Camrys, one containing a woman and her young nephew and the other containing a woman riding alone, collided in the intersection.
Huntington Beach resident Creighton Chun said he saw the crash and stopped his car in the middle of the road with his hazard lights on to block other vehicles to help prevent additional crashes.
“I was worried other people would hit them,” Chun said.
Police and fire personnel provided aid to the three people involved in the crash and they were taken to local hospitals, Cookston said.
Chun said he jumped out of his car to help the woman and her nephew.
Their car was smoking, Chun said, so he took the key out of the ignition. He and another bystander helped the boy out of the car and tried to console him and the woman. Chun said the boy had a large gash on his neck.
“They were in shock,” Chun said. “What a horrific experience to endure.”
Chun said Friday morning that he had visited the hospital and that a family member of the woman and the boy told him the boy was in good condition. The woman had a neck injury and would be undergoing an MRI, Chun said the relative told him.
Chun said the driver of the other Camry did not appear to be seriously injured.
