Man suspected of DUI hit-and-run and fleeing through yards and on rooftops in Costa Mesa
Police arrested a man suspected of crashing his vehicle into a parked car early Thursday in Costa Mesa and running away on the rooftops and through the backyards of nearby homes.
Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run in the 1600 block of Baker Street at about 3:30 a.m., Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bang Le said.
Witnesses said a motorist hit an unoccupied parked car and fled on foot, Le said.
Police found a man running on rooftops and through backyards on Samoa Place, Le said.
Police detained the man and determined he was under the influence of alcohol, Le said.
Michael Wade Smith, 49, of Irvine was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, prowling, trespassing and drunk driving, Le said.
