For the second time this year, burglars smashed into a Costa Mesa sandwich shop late Monday, police said.
Officers responded to an alarm at Sandwich World at 375 Bristol St. at 11:41 p.m., Costa Mesa police Sgt. Dan Miles said.
The shop’s glass front door was smashed, Miles said. Officers searched the business but couldn’t find anyone.
Surveillance video shows two unidentified people shattering the door and ransacking the business, Miles said. But it looked like the burglars didn’t take anything, he said.
The video shows one of the burglars fleeing through the front door and the other out a back door, Miles said. No description of either person was available.
Police said the same business was broken into in April.
In that break-in, someone also smashed a door or window to get in, according to Miles. The burglar or burglars stole only a few quarters out of the cash register, Miles said.
It’s unclear whether the two break-ins are related, police said.
