Balboa Island walk benefits diabetes research
The 21st annual Shooting Stars Walk to Cure Diabetes Oct. 23 on Balboa Island helped raise more than $16,000 for JDRF, an organization the funds diabetes research.
This year’s walk welcomed around 120 participants. Each year, a group is led by Joanne Milo, a Type 1 diabetic for over 51 years, to walk around the island.
Participants wore T-shirts made by graphic designers Ryan and Joanne McCoy. Those wearing the shirts were treated to mini-waffles and coffee.
