Orange County coroner’s officials have identified an Irvine resident as the driver who died after his truck jumped a guardrail and slammed into a pillar in Irvine this week.
Todd Gibson, 36, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup north on State Route 133 just south of the 5 Freeway around 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.
For an unknown reason, the truck swerved off the road and into a guardrail, California Highway Patrol officials said. The truck went airborne and in midair slammed into a concrete pillar at the Irvine Center Drive overcrossing, according to the CHP.
No other vehicles were involved.
Gibson died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the CHP said.
