Fire at Costa Mesa woodworking business causes $125,000 in damage
A Costa Mesa woodworking business sustained about $125,000 in damage in a fire Tuesday night, officials said.
Police responded to a burglary alarm at Ward’s Wood Work at 1355 Logan Ave. at about 8:30 p.m. and found smoke and fire inside instead of a burglary, said Capt. Chris Coates of the Costa Mesa Fire Department.
Officers called in the Fire Department, and additional personnel from the Fountain Valley Fire Department came in for backup. The flames were knocked down by 9 p.m. by 26 firefighters from both departments, Coates said.
The business was closed at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, Coates said. Smoke spread to two nearby buildings but did not cause major damage.
He said the cause is being investigated as a possible spontaneous combustion.
