Irvine burglary suspect arrested after chase

Irvine officers arrested a burglary suspect after a chase through a neighborhood Monday afternoon ended with a police dog discovering him in an attic, police said.

The chase started about 1:30 p.m. when a resident on Columbus in the Northwood community interrupted a man as he tried to climb into a home’s window, police said. The resident called police, and the man ran without taking anything, according to authorities.

As officers and an Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crew began searching for the man, he went into an unlocked garage on Glenn, where he apparently stole a few small items, police said.

He then jumped a fence into another home’s backyard.

That home’s resident saw the man and fled out the front door, and a neighbor called 911, police said.

The man got inside the home through an unlocked patio door and hid, police said.

Police said they searched the home, using a police dog to check the attic.

Authorities arrested Matthew Samuel Kozlov, 20, of Anaheim. Kozlov was bitten on each arm when the dog found him, police said.

Kozlov was booked into Orange County Jail with bail set at $50,000, according to Sheriff’s Department records.
