Burglar at Wahoo’s gets a cashbox — but it’s empty

A burglar or burglars broke into a Wahoo’s Fish Taco in Costa Mesa early Monday but only made off with an empty cashbox, police said.
Officers responded at about 3 a.m. to the restaurant in the 3000 block of Bristol Street after an alarm sounded, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Dan Miles said.
Police discovered the building’s rear door had been forced open, Miles said. Inside, someone had ripped a cash register off the counter.
Pieces of the register were scattered on the floor but the only part missing was a built-in cashbox, according to police.
The cashbox was empty, according to a person responsible for that Wahoo’s location, Miles said.
Police did not have any description of the burglar or burglars on Monday morning.
Investigators are working to get security camera footage, Miles said.
