High School Roundup: Estancia boys’ golf earns key league win

Estancia 203, Calvary Chapel 219
FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Estancia moved into a first-place tie with Calvary Chapel in the Orange Coast League with Jaime Ramirez’s two-over-par 38 medalist honor performance at Mile Square Golf Club on Wednesday.
Estancia (7-7, 4-1 in league) saw Kobi Uta finish with a 40. The rest of the players were Gunnar Johnston (41), Davin Ortiz (41) and Brad Ehrhorn (43).
Estancia is in the Mesa Verde Tournament at Mesa Verde Country Club on Monday at noon.

Corona del Mar 190, Villa Park 197
CORONA — Chase Furey and Ian Fletcher shared medalist honors with one-over-par 37s, helping the Sea Kings in a nonleague match at windy Green River Golf Club on Wednesday.
Hale Furey had a 38, and Karick Brown and Grant Nutt each recorded 39s.

Oak Hills 10 , Corona del Mar 4
A.J. Sanchez went two for three with a double and two runs batted in for the host Sea Kings in the last game of the Beach Pit Classic on Wednesday.
Ryan Pierce went two for four for CdM (5-13), which went 2-2 during the four-day tournament.
Sam Younesi doubled for the Sea Kings.
The Sea Kings return to Pacific Coast League action on Tuesday, when they play host to University at 3:30 p.m. The Sea Kings share fourth place in league with University at 3-4.

Irvine 14, Estancia 2
Jake Brown went one for three with two runs batted in for the host Eagles, who concluded play in the Beach Pit Classic on Wednesday.
Jason Rodriguez pitched three solid innings in relief for Estancia (6-11), which went winless in the four-game tournament.
Connor Brown went one for three.
The Eagles open the second part of Orange Coast League play at home against defending league champion Laguna Beach on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. Estancia is 4-3 in league and in third place.

Canyon 2, Newport Harbor 1
Cal State Fullerton-bound senior Connor Seabold threw seven innings, allowing two runs and seven hits in the Sailors’ final game in the Beach Pit Classic at home on Wednesday.
Jonah Dipoto went one for three with a run batted in for Newport Harbor (9-9). Logan Mahaffy went two for three.
Seabold and Tk McWhertor each singled, while Jake Norton doubled.
Newport Harbor finished 1-3 during the tournament.
The Sailors begin the second half of Sunset League play at Edison on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. Newport Harbor sits in fourth place in league at 2-6.

Bjorn Hoffmann swept in singles in the nonleague match Wednesday at CdM.
Ryan Andrews and Oliver Kim swept in doubles for the Sea Kings (12-3).

BOYS’ SWIMMING
Costa Mesa 98, Saddleback 63
Tyler Connors won the 100 butterfly in 58.44 seconds, as well as the 200 IM in 2:05.30, in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Costa Mesa High.
Nick Ly won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.99), and Nick Warner the 100 backstroke (1:06.99). Costa Mesa also swept the top three spots in the 500 freestyle, behind swims from Andrew Palacious (5:45.47), Corbin Fisher (5:47.71) and August Ackerman (6:01.96).

GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Saddleback 77, Costa Mesa 74
Lauren Smith won twice for the Mustangs in Wednesday’s Orange Coast League meet at Costa Mesa High.
Smith won the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.92) and the 100 freestyle (58.50 seconds). Devon Christensen won the 50 freestyle (29.30), Yesennia Villa won the 500 freestyle in 6:19.04 and Bridgette Smitheram won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.76.
