Girls’ Water Polo: CdM is No. 3 seed
The Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team will attempt to repeat as CIF Southern Section Division 1 champion as the No. 3 seed.
The Sea Kings (23-4) are the highest seeded team of the three Newport-Mesa squads that are in the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Newport Harbor, which reached the CIF Division 1 title game last year, will have its work out cut out for it this season.
Costa Mesa is a wild card in Division 1.
CdM, the Pacific Coast League champion that won its first Division 1 title last season, open against a wild-card winner Wednesday.
The first-round games are scheduled for 5 p.m.
The winner of the El Dorado (10-13) at Edison (15-12) game will play at CdM on Wednesday.
Newport Harbor (19-8), which finished second in the Sunset League, will play host to Goleta Dos Pueblos (10-15), which finished third in the Channel League, in the first round.
Costa Mesa (9-16), which finished third in the Orange Coast League, plays host to Woodbridge (10-7), an at-large team that finished fourth in the PCL. The winner of the game will play at No. 2-seeded Foothill (21-5), the Century League champion.
CdM and Newport Harbor could meet in the semifinals.
Laguna Beach (25-1), the Orange Coast League champion, is the top seed in Division 1.
