Briefs: White, Gordon rule Surf City Marathon

Charles White of Huntington Beach won the men’s marathon and Emily Gordon of Los Angeles won the women’s marathon Sunday at the 18th annual Surf City USA Marathon. White, 24, ran the 26.2 mile course in 2:33:21. Gordon, 21, won with a time of 2:56.28 and broke the women’s course record time by nearly 17 minutes.
The Surf City USA Marathon included approximately 21,000 pre-registered runners from all 50 states and 33 countries.
Men’s marathon: 1. Charles White, 24, Huntington Beach (2:33:21); 2. Jim Lubinski, 35, Los Angeles (2:36:20); 3. Christopher Collins, 21, Yorba Linda (2:44:19).
Women’s marathon: 1. Emily Gordon, 21, Los Angeles (2:39:58); 2. Kristen Soloway, 39, Davis (2:54:35); 3. Dolores Valencia, 49, Chino Hills (2:58:48).
Men’s half marathon: 1. Cheyne Inman, 28, Vacaville (1:09:51); 2. Alan Campos, 25, Mammoth Lakes (1:11:23); 3. Oliver Lange, 21, Salt Lake City, UT. (1:11:31).
Women’s half marathon: 1. Mandy Grantz, 27, Pasadena (1:16:05); 2. Liz Camy, 30, Camarillo (1:16:21); 3. Joanna Zeiger, 43, Boulder, CO. (1:18:54)

Fundraiser coming
The Ocean View High baseball booster club will stage its ninth annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament Fundraiser Saturday at Centerfield Sports Bar and Grill (17296 Beach Blvd, Huntington Beach). The cost is $60 per person. Door prizes, raffles and a silent auction will be held, and 25% of all food sales and tournament proceeds will fund the Ocean View baseball program.

Swim sessions available
A swim program for youth eighth-grade-and-under run by Edison water polo and swim coach Diggy Riley is being offered at Edison High.
Daily swim sessions will run from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday through March 6.
