UCI women fall to Long Beach State

LONG BEACH — Senior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto scored a career-high 30 points, but the Anteaters lost an eight-point lead late in regulation in the Big West Conference opener Thursday at Walter Pyramid.
Tsurumoto made seven of 14 field-goal attempts, was three for five from three-point range and made all 13 of her foul shots. She also had a team-best four assists.
UCI led, 48-37, with 14:51 left in regulation and Tsurumoto’s layup with 3:54 left in regulation gave the visitors (7-8) a 69-61 lead. But UCI did not get another field goal in the final 8:54 of action, including overtime.
Senior Camille Buckley had 13 points and eight rebounds for UCI before fouling out in regulation.
Long Beach State (9-6) won the rebounding battle, 62-42, to offset a 29-20 UCI advantage in turnovers.
The 49ers were 16 for 32 from the foul line.
