SAN DIEGO — Senior guard Nicole Ballestero finished with 23 points, five assists and three steals for the Lions, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Division I, in a nonconference game on Wednesday.
Ashleigh Anderson had 12 points and eight rebounds for Vanguard (5-0).
Vanguard’s Samantha Doucette added 16 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Vanguard, which trailed by two in the first half, outscored Point Loma Nazarene, 41-19, in the second half.

Sierra Brown had 17 kills for the Pirates who lost the Orange Empire Conference match, 25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, Wednesday at OCC.
Kellie Kleszcz added 12 kills and Carina Perez led OCC (12-7, 7-7 in conference) with 25 digs. Pirates setter Megan Ritchie amassed 46 assists.
Cypress is 16-7, 10-4.
Playoff seedings will take place on Saturday.
