Luca Cupido scored five goals and Mitchell Mendoza added four goals to help the Sailors hold off the Griffins in the Sunset League opener for both teams Wednesday at Newport Harbor.

Clay Davison scored two goals and KJ Kelley had one goal for Newport Harbor (13-3, 1-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

Jessie Harris had eight kills to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-20, 25-17, 26-24 Pacific Coast League road win Wednesday.

Paige Migliori had 18 assists for CdM (10-2, 3-0 in league), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA.

The Sea Kings next compete in the Asics California Challenge, the tournament hosted by Torrey Pines High in San Diego.

Alyaa Abdulghany shot two-over-par 37 for the Sea Kings to share medalist honors with Joo Seo of Aliso in the nonleague match Wednesday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Amy Matsuoka (38), Karlie Moses (43), Gabby Finear (44) and Lauren Nakumura (47) also scored for CdM (11-1).

The Sea Kings face University in a Pacific Coast League match Thursday at Newport Beach Country Club. The Trojans are the only team to beat CdM this season.
