Devine to UCR
Sarah Devine, a former first-team All-Big West defender for the UC Irvine women’s soccer team, was hired recently as an assistant coach by UC Riverside.
Devine, who spent the 2012 season as a student assistant coach for the Anteaters, replaces Lauren Barnes on the Highlanders’ staff after Barnes was drafted by the Seattle Reign FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.
Devine, a three-year starter, helped the Anteaters win back-to-back Big West Conference regular-season titles in 2010 and 2011. She played only three seasons, collecting three goals and four assists. She took a medical redshirt year as a freshman in 2008 and elected to forego her final season of eligibility.
UCI finished 14-4-3 in 2011 and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
In 2010, the ‘Eaters were 19-3-2, 8-0 in conference and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
