High School Roundup: Lundquist leads way with MVP award

Brock Lundquist, a key figure behind Fountain Valley’s drive to the 2013 Sunset League baseball championship, has been named the league’s most valuable player.

The junior heads an all-league team that includes Marina senior Jack Westermeyer as the pitcher of the year, Fountain Valley teammate Justin Cobb, a sophomore, sharing the rookie of the year honor with Huntington Beach freshman Logan Pouelsen, and Fountain Valley’s Deric Yanagisawa as the coach of the year.

Three players from Ocean View, seniors Jared Goodman an Aaron Beuel, and junior James Wilson, have been named to the All-Golden West League baseball team.

The 54th annual Orange County All-Star Charity Prep Football Game is June 28 at Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium. Six local players, Alek Torgersen, Miah Frost, Derek Baljeu and Trenton Aschoff of Edison, and Sebastian DeMartini and Milo Aviles of Huntington Beach, were selected in April to play for the South.

The kickoff starting time is 7:15 p.m.
