High School Roundup: Taylor wins shotput at Arcadia Invitational

ARCADIA — Newport Harbor High senior Marty Taylor is back on top of the state of California when it comes to the shotput.
Taylor won the event at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational with a personal-best mark of 61 feet, 2 1/2 inches. He had finished second in the shotput at the Trabuco Hills Invitational last week, but would not be denied in Arcadia.
Taylor holds the state’s top marks in the shotput and discus this season.
Taylor finished second in the discus Saturday with a mark of 186-4. His personal record is 187-5.
Damon Unland of Ferris High in Washington won the discus Saturday with a mark of 190-3.

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Jack Ortlieb scored four goals to lead the Sea Kings to their 34th straight win Saturday.
Senior Casey Mix had six assists and one for CdM (10-0).
Sophomore goalie Hoyt Crance made 10 saves. Seniors Todd Kitzens (two goals, two assists, four groundballs), Chase McElroy (one goal, three groundballs), junior Jay Damon (one goal), and sophomores Max Kline (three goals), Sherman Gersten (one goal, one assist) and Chad Redfearn (five groundballs) also contributed to the win.
