College Roundup: BYU tops UCI in baseball

PROVO, Utah — The visiting Anteaters left nine men on base to waste starter Matt Whitehouse’s second straight complete game in nonconference action on Friday.
BYU clinched the three-game series with its second consecutive win over the No. 21-ranked Anteaters, who had not lost a series all season.
Whitehouse allowed seven hits and three runs in eight innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. The loss was the first of the junior’s collegiate career and dropped him to 2-1 this season.
Sophomore first baseman Connor Spencer went three for four, while junior center fielder Dominique Taylor and sophomore designated hitter Ryan Cooper both went two for four as the Anteaters (11-4) had nine hits.
Adam Miller (1-3) got the win for BYU (9-6), which had seven hits and committed the game’s only error.
The series concludes Saturday at 11 a.m.

Indoor nationals
GENEVA, Ohio — Vanguard University senior Megan Williams finished fourth in the women’s 3,000 meters to earn All-American honors on Friday.
Williams finished in 10 minutes 13.16 seconds, moving up steadily from eighth place in her final mile.
It’s Williams’ fifth All-American honor.
Hillary Holt from the College of Idaho, won the event in 10:00.73.

Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament
POMONA — UC Irvine thumped a pair of opponents on Friday, blanking Occidental, 14-0, after taking care of Pomona-Pitzer, 17-7. Both matches were at Pomona-Pitzer.
Freshman Ambyr Stewart combined to produce five goals in the two games. Junior Michaela Pierandozzi, freshman Hannah Lancaster, junior Hannah Coughan and senior Kelsey Klatt all had four goals on the day.
Coach Dan Klatt’s No. 6-ranked Anteaters (13-6) return to action on Thursday when they play host to No. 8-ranked Hawaii in the first Big West Conference clash between the two.

SAN DIEGO — The visiting Pirates earned a 25-12, 15-14, 15-17 sweep in Pacific Coast Conference action on Friday.
OCC improved to 6-3, 2-1 in conference.
San Diego City is 0-9, 0-4.
