UCI’s Whitehouse named Big West Pitcher of the Week in baseball

UC Irvine junior Matt Whitehouse has been named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week in baseball.

Whitehouse, a left-hander who missed last season with injuries, struck out six and allowed two hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings as the Anteaters topped Baylor, 5-0, on Saturday at Anteater Ballpark.

With his first win in nearly two years, Whitehouse improved to 5-0 in his UCI career and helped the ‘Eaters sweep Baylor and is ranked No. 25 by Baseball America this week.

The Anteaters play host to Cal in a four-game nonconference series that begins Friday at 6:30 p.m.
