COSTA MESA — The host Lions shot 26.5% from inside the three-point arc and 31.3% outside it in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday.
Vanguard (12-6, 1-2 in conference) made just 14 of 50 field-goal attempts for the game (28%).
Preston Wynne had 12 points and Chris Gorman had 10 for the Lions, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Westmont is now 15-3, 3-0.
VU plays host to first-year GSAC entry Arizona Christian on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Nevada 6, UC Irvine 1
IRVINE — Freshman Reo Asami defeated Moez Echarqui, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 2 singles to earn the host Anteaters’ only point in the season opener on Tuesday.
UCI’s Jonathan Poon, Ryan Cheung and Shuhei Shibahara all won a set in singles.
Nevada is 1-0.
UCI opens Big West Conference play on Friday at Hawaii.
