Briefs: OCC’s Gonzalez gets top honor

Orange Coast College men’s water polo coach Julian Gonzalez was named Coach of the Year in the Orange Empire Conference this season after leading the Pirates to an 18-14 record and a berth in the Southern California Regional playoffs.
Three OCC players earned first-team all-conference recognition, as did Golden West College freshman David Jorth, a Newport Harbor High product.
Sophomore center Trevor McGhie, also a Newport Harbor product, sophomore driver Gerrit Hill, and freshman driver Gavin Wright represented OCC on the first team.
OCC sophomore utility player Randy Trimmer and freshman driver Kevin Masone were on the second team.

Pirates lauded
Orange Coast College women’s water polo players Anna Venturini and Alyssa Thomas were named first-team All-Orange Empire Conference to pace four Pirates honored.
Venturini, a Corona del Mar High product, was a freshman and Thomas was a sophomore.
Freshman Carolyn Rohwer and freshman Briana Salas represented OCC (18-14) on the second team.
