OCC is clutch down the stretch in victory

Orange Coast College 82, East L.A. College 81
GLENDORA — John Joyce made two free-throws with six seconds left to lift the OCC men’s basketball team to a thrilling victory Saturday night in the Neil Edwards Classic.
Joyce finished with 12 points off the bench in 15 minutes, hitting five of six from the field for the Pirates (3-2). Jordan Pellum led OCC with 14 points and Marquis Ransom added 11.
Jaree Crawford led East L.A. (4-2) with 19 points. OCC takes on L.A. Pierce College in the championship game of the Neil Edwards Classic at 6 p.m. Sunday at Citrus College.

Vanguard University 95, University of Redlands 89
COSTA MESA — The Lions (6-3) jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and held on Saturday in a Vanguard Thanksgiving Tournament contest.
Preston Wynne led the Anteaters with 28 points in 29 minutes, which included six three pointers. Chris Gorman added 20 points and eight assists, in addition to five steals, helping Redlands drop to 1-2.

UC Santa Barbara def. UC Irvine
SANTA BARBARA — The Anteaters came back from a two-games-to-one deficit Saturday in the Big West Conference finale on the road, but the host Gauchos hung on to win 26-24, 15-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13.
Aly Squires led UCI (11-22, 5-13 in conference) with 18 kills, and Shannon Fleming and Taylor Smith added 15 and 13, respectively. Victoria Dennis rounded out the locals’ hitting attack with 10 kills.
Leah Sully led UC Santa Barbara (16-17, 9-9) with 25 kills.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Ella Rosenfeld and Shannon Fleming each had nine kills to lead the visiting Anteaters, who were swept, 25-15, 25-20, 25-18, in the Big West Conference match Friday.
Rosenfeld, who had a team-best three block assists, hit .438. Fleming (two block assists), hit .318, but UCI, which fell to 11-21, 5-12 in conference, hit .121 as a team.
Cal Poly improved to 4-25, 3-14.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
New Mexico State 50, UC Irvine 44
NEW MEXICO — The Anteaters couldn’t make it two straight wins in a row as they dropped Saturday’s contest at the New Mexico State Tournament.
Jennifer Tsurumoto led UCI (1-5) with 14 points. Methlyn Onogomuho added eight points for the Anteaters, who were outscored, 29-24, by New Mexico State (3-2) in the second half.
